Stefanie is a highly-creative and multi-faceted enrolled member of the Colville Confederated Tribe, born and raised in Okanogan, WA. By her elders, she was given the name “aickwala,” meaning meadowlark, because she just sang way too loud in the sweat lodge as a child. Stefanie’s artistic and creative expressions have carried throughout her life and are communicated by many avenues. Her works reflect her desire to strengthen the connection between her people and strong cultural identity.

She creates things with her hands to honor her ancestors; the two-legged, four-legged, and the ones without. Stefanie’s unconditional love for her people and indigenous culture amplifies her motivation to oil paint, draw, sew, bead, weave, take pictures, write, design, and share by means of teaching. Unlimited by canvas, she enjoys exploring the world of painting on just about anything. Although she is mostly self-taught, many of her crafts and skills that have been passed down in her family.

Stefanie’s works have been displayed in several group shows/exhibitions and newspapers across the Pacific Northwest. Most recently, she won first place at the NNDF Native Art Show in 2017. Stefanie plans to carry her artistic passion forward by any medium.
